Hey Andy,

I just got two of your books:
HTML, XHTML, and CSS A-I-O
&
PHP 6/MySQL Programming for the Absolute Beginner

I just got em b/c a) I need/want to learn about these for a new job
and b) they were well-reviewed on Amazon.
I actually didn't know you had written them both until after I got them :-).

I was really encouraged to read a little about your background in
the books and 'Acknowledgements' sections.

Anyway, while being fairly efficient at navigating 'forums'
and Internet mktng, I have always outsourced any programming/
design needs.

Basically, I'm a frustratingly clueless newb.

But I've realized that I should read the 'XHTML, etc' book
first, and then the 'PHP' (right?).

And, seeing as my livelihood (not to mention my thirst for
programming knowledge!) requires I learn these languages, I'm
certain that I can breathe at least a little life back into
this forum.

I will, no doubt, have a question soon (prob starting somewhere
around Chs 3-4 of Book 1 in the 'XHTML, etc FD' book :-).

Thanks for your contributions & for the work you've done in
"having a good name".

And thanks in advance for your patience with my ("Yeah...some guy
actually asked me this...") questions, :-)

- Eric

Welcome to the community. I'm thrilled you picked up my books, and I'm happy to help. I don't check the forum every day, so if you have an urgent question, please write on the forum (so others can read the answer) but then send me an email via the contact page so I'll know to look for it.

XHTML or HTML5 and CSS are really important before you begin PHP, as they form the graphic interface for a PHP program. So I'd start with these in the AIO first.

If you've never programmed before, I'd probably do a little JavaScript first before jumping into PHP, because JavaScript is a much easier language to get started with, and programming ideas move pretty easily between languages.

Best of luck to you, and looking forward to hearing more from you...
