Mr. Harris
changeme email addresses changed

Andy (moodle admin) here.

I have changed a few of the email addresses, and want to explain why.

When we created accounts for people, I gave everyone an address something like changmeme@changeme.com.

Of course that address doesn't really exist, and so each person needs to change this to a legitimate email address.

I understand that not everyone has an email address or wants to use email with this system, but the fake emails were beginning to cause a problem.  Every time we send a group message, I get an error email for each changeme address.  So I'm getting 15+ error emails every day.  This makes it much harder for me to spot real errors (and it adds to my already magnificant spam collection.)

So I went through the system and changed all of the changeme addresses to a different system called mailinator.

If your name is "Jacob Harris" and you hadn't changed your email yet, I've changed it to jharris@mailinator.com

This is a 'throwaway' email service.  If an email is sent to this address, it really does get sent, but to a garbage account.  You can read an email sent to a mailinator address by going to mailinator.com, but the email will be deleted within a few hours automatically.

In this way, those who do not want to use email will still be able to participate without us getting a huge number of errors coming through the system.

Any emails sent to mailinator are PUBLIC until they are deleted (anybody who knows the email address can read the content,) so please be cautious about what you send until we get real emails for everyone.

The mailinator system is not perfect. I'd really rather have a legitimate (even if ignored) email address attached to each account.

I can create a more secure email if anybody needs one.  I can also make a unique email address for a student that then gets forwarded to a parent account if that would be preferred.

Thanks, and best to all of you for a great start to the year.
